  25. Gradekeeper is a powerful, easy to use gradebook program for Macintosh and Windows.

You can use semesters, trimesters, quarters, or six-week terms. You can record scores for 100 students on 100 assignments in each term. You can group assignments into 10 categories. You can compute grades using total points or category weights. You can excuse any score for any student, or drop the worst score in any category. Your final exams can contribute to the term, semester, or final grade.

Gradekeeper is also very easy to use. With the default categories and options, you can start entering students, assignments, and scores right away. To change student names, assignments, or scores, simply click and type the new information. An extensive user’s guide is included (choose Gradekeeper Help from the  menu).

  31. I wrote Gradekeeper because I was unable to find an inexpensive grading program with the features I needed which was also easy to use. I hope Gradekeeper is able to fill that void for you as well.

  34. Paying for Gradekeeper

Gradekeeper is distributed as shareware. It is not free. You may try this program for 30 days. If decide to continue using it, you are expected to pay for it. An individual license is $20. This allows you to use Gradekeeper. A school site license is $100. This allows any teacher at your school to use Gradekeeper.

  38. To pay the registration fee for your copy of Gradekeeper, start the program. You will see a window reminding you that Gradekeeper is shareware. Click Register. This will start the registration application.

If you are purchasing an individual license, enter your name in the Register To item. If you are purchasing a site license, enter your school name in the Register To item. Enter your e-mail address and postal address. Enter the number of licenses you are purchasing. If you are purchasing a site license, check the Site check box.

  42. Choose the method you will use to pay. If you will be using a credit card, enter your credit card number and expiration date. If you are paying by check, your check must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Postal money orders are also acceptable.

  44. If you are paying by check, click Print to print the registration form, then send it to Kagi at the address listed on the form:

  58. All registrations must be pre-paid. If you need an invoice, you can print one by choosing the Invoice payment option. Print this invoice and submit it to your accounts payable department for payment.

  62. Distributing Gradekeeper

  64. You may distribute your unregistered copy of Gradekeeper to anyone. You may include it on a CD-ROM or upload it onto a BBS or other online service. If you give Gradekeeper to someone else, you must include all the files in the Gradekeeper folder. You may not modify the program in any way.

  67. Backing up your classes

While Gradekeeper has proven very reliable, floppies are easily damaged and hard drives do sometimes fail. To avoid any risk of losing your grades at the worst possible time you should always keep a current backup of your data on another disk. You should also keep a current printed copy of your gradebook grid to provide an extra measure of safety.
